Travel and Tourism

When we tell people that we live in the Netherlands, they often ask how we like living in Amsterdam.

Just as Paris is not France and London is not England, Amsterdam is not all there is in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is lovely and has some things very representative of Dutch culture and history, like the skinny houses with the hooks at the top, but Amsterdam also has a lot of tourists.

I want to open up another part of the Netherlands to visitors. I live in Arnhem, which is about an hour and a half east of Amsterdam, and about 30 minutes driving from the German border. The Netherlands is a tall, skinny country, so getting from the coast to another border doesn’t take that long.

There is a lot of World War II history in and around Arnhem. There are also Dutch restaurants, boardgame stores, and groceries. My goal is to help you experience the Netherlands as the Dutch do (as much as one can, coming into a foreign culture).

I offer custom tours designed around individual’s and small group’s needs. The tours are mainly in English and designed for people who are not comfortable getting around in Dutch.

I plan to focus on certain areas of interest, including (but not limited to) history (particularly the history of the area), boardgaming, special diets (celiac, vegetarian), and mobility options.

We will use mostly use public transportation and/or bicycles, however use of mobility scooters is also a possibility.
